“Sometimes I wonder
What I’m a-gonna do
But there ain’t no cure
For the summertime blues.”
Eddie Cochran
Here it is…the first weekend of summer. The heat and humidity of a Cincinnati summer has settled in. And I’m inside looking out. Yes…already I have the summertime blues. I don’t like summer…at least how it rears its head in my neck of the woods.
The rock band, The Who, sing Eddie Cochran’s teen anthem of not having enough money or time to enjoy the summer. I on the other had just wish it away…looking forward to the first frost of fall! All around me are folks who truly enjoy being out in the heat and humidity doing all sorts of fun looking activities while I hide behind black-out curtains.
Naturally I keep wondering what’s wrong with me and if I just embraced the heat I’d get use to it and maybe even come to enjoy it. Promises of getting up at dawn to beat the heat don’t pan out…and so here I am.
Last week the Washington Post published an article, “Long Summer Days are here. Not everyone is thrilled.” After reading this article, which is the first in a series, I immediately felt better about my attitude towards summer! The article presented why many don’t like summer…the heat/humidity, longer daylight throwing them off balance, as well as unrealistic expectations about how one should spend summer. (Not everyone has a lake house!) All of which I can relate. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series!
If you’re someone who loves the summer please do so! Mean while I’m counting down to Fall which is my favorite season of the year…
